About Us

The Writing Lives programme offers weekly creative writing and storytelling workshops to a number of groups across Broughton and Charlestown, Salford. Workshops cover a broad range of narrative based activities: writing poetry and short stories, book making, text art, spoken word and storytelling.

The groups are open to anyone interested in sharing stories, writing them down, learning new skills and meeting new people.

Over the past few years, Writing Lives has delivered various initiatives in partnership with local communities. These include publishing an anthology, creating a blog, visits to museums and art galleries, storytelling events and establishing Broughton Poetry Day.

Set up in 2007, the project is managed by the University of Salford in partnership with The Broughton Trust and Women Working Together. Workshops are led by professional writers and artists experienced in facilitating creative community projects. Writing Lives aims to support participants by offering an alternative route into education/training, building confidence and self-esteem, strengthening community relationships and empowering individuals to find their own voice through their passion for the written word.
